Superintendent's Message for the 2015-16 School Year
1 day ago
Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year!
On September 1st, more than 2,000 students in the School District of Marinette began their 2015-16 school year. The start of each school year is exciting because of the energy our students, staff, parents and community members bring to it — and all the possibilities that working together provides.
We have started our third year at Menekaunee Sunrise Early Learning Center, where all of the Early Childhood, 4-year old kindergarten, and 5-year old kindergarten students begin their formal learning journey. These enthusiastic students experience a positive learning environment with cheerful, friendly, and experienced educators who will help them succeed in their future schooling and life activities.
Our caring staff works hard to provide students with a safe, nurturing and engaging educational experience. We are focused on strengthening relationships with our students as we work toward personalizing instruction to attain each child's potential. Maximum student-teacher ratios of 18 to 1 in grades kindergarten through grade 3 enable more individual attention to students during those critical, early years of learning to read, write and perform basic mathematics. Our 6th-12th grade students have the opportunity to extend their learning by taking a variety of online courses through our virtual learning programming and 11th-12th grade students have numerous options to obtain college credit through agreements with UW-Marinette, St. Norbert College and NWTC.
The School District of Marinette is committed to the community it serves and strives to provide the best academic and extra-curricular programming possible for all students. We continually strive to improve the services we provide for students, such as our recently expanded Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programming at the middle school and high school. As our students graduate from Marinette High School, we want to be confident that we have prepared them to be productive, trustworthy, hard-working, wise, and capable of honorable service to their family, employer, community and country.
Please check out our website calendar (www.marinette.k12.wi.us), as activities may be added or changed due to extenuating circumstances throughout the year.
Have a great 2015-16 school year!
