This Girl Can is a two-day event that happens once a year. Day one: the participants visit Samuel Pressure Vessel Group and learn about the proper personal protective equipment for welding. Day two: participants and their chaperones visit NWTC to have a hands-on experience with welding. Participants leave with a welded project that they make themselves. The goal of the program is to provide female students an opportunity to learn about welding in an environment that is catered to their needs. This event shows that not only men can be welders but women as well! Some people associate welding as a “manlier” interest, but this gives our students an opportunity to practice their skills and lift the stigma of welding being a masculine trade, all while having them work towards a project that can be brought home and shown off!
